OUR TEAM

These are the human stories behind a team that works passionately around the clock to bring compassion, joy, and a spirit of community to the lives of our clients and care providers.

Min Lee | Managing Director

I grew up in a culture that was strong on filial piety, as we always want the best for our parents. Having come to Mauritius after living abroad, my husband and I were asked by many of our diaspora friends to help with their parents living in Mauritius. We experienced the pain of trying to piece together a qualified care team - the industry is not regulated, you did not know who to trust, there was no transparency in care delivery, and there were many gaps in service. Through these experiences, we met both the good and the bad, and knew from our overseas experience, the level of service that was possible, and the coordination between multi-disciplinary experts that is important to deliver high quality holistic care outcomes. This is my main motivation in designing KazaCare with an ecosystem approach, by finding and empowering the best care providers in Mauritius, to help them grow their teams and skills, while designing a care experience that combines the science of successful ageing, with exceptional customer service that puts elders and their families first.

Camille Navarro | Director of Nursing

Hilary Estelle Marie  | Customer Success

I was brought up in an extended Family where Family has always been prime. My grand parents have looked after my brother and I since childhood when our parents were working. After we lost my grandmother, we found ourselves deciding whether we should put our grandfather in a home as the majority of us were working and we did want him to feel isolated. Ultimately we decided that it was best for him to stay in his house and be helped by other family members just like he has always been there for us. When I discovered KazaCare I felt drawn to the company as I thought about what my family experienced and how the services KazaCare offer can help so many families around the island. Therefore joining as Customer Success I want to add my contribution in the Home Care industry.

Noeline Adam | Care Operations

Ephrem Tesfay | Successful Ageing Advisor & GP

I grew up with my grandparents who are now in their late 90s and 80s. My grandparents were the only family I have, our family bond was very strong. I grew up surrounded by a lot of love and support. In my teenage years, I started witnessing the strongest people I know, my grandparents, battling to cope with age-related changes. It was quite a painful experience especially as a teenager who didn't know how to help. That experience inspired my profession as a doctor and my keen interest in care for elders. When I came across KazaCare, I didn't just meet a company that aspires to establish an integrated holistic care for elders, I met a team with strong personal motivations inspired by similar stories like mine. That personal motivation is the common denominator for me and for the team in KazaCare.

I was based in the USA when my Mother was stricken with a very serious illness in Sri Lanka.  My father did the best he could to care for her, and as a family we had challenges contributing to his efforts from afar. Although I was fortunate enough to be able to visit her in Sri Lanka several times a year to help in her care, it seemed I could only influence the quality of her care very little. I could not monitor whether medications were being administered correctly, or how her diet or physical therapy was working. No information was available on the issues that were encountered on a daily basis, nor the mitigation steps by the caregivers, nor any progress or deterioration in her health. If they were even logged at all, it was often inaccurate or outdated. My siblings who were also based overseas, would take turns visiting her, to influence the quality of her care, but regression of care would set in as soon as we all departed to take care of our other family and work obligations. In fact, even the many Specialists and Doctors collaborating across geographies to provide care, had similar challenges since it required perusing through many different sets of paper based medical records, and in person or phone interviews with caregivers to bridge the information gaps and understand disease progression. Technology is so much more advanced today and capable of augmenting the care journey, allowing a team of care providers to collaborate and focus on what they do best while keeping the family informed and involved in management of the comfort of the elder family member or patient. This was my driving motivation to get involved in KazaCare.

Quentin Adam | Systems and New Innovation

Growing up in Mauritius is both a privilege and a responsibility. It is a privilege because we are surrounded by diversity and get to meet people from all walks of life. Living on a small developing island state means witnessing varied and colorful stories closer to home. We are increasingly affected by the living conditions of our neighbours as we progress toward a united People, it is our responsibility to learn and act upon those stories that we feel are within reach of our skill set. Having been raised by a doctor and having stepped a foot in the medical path, I am aware of the gaps in our healthcare sector and of the many ways we can improve it together. Having witnessed the suffering of many elders and their family due to the lack of affordable and reliable healthcare at home, even more so during the pandemic, it was a logical next step for me to take part in a community like KazaCare for helping those that need it the most.

When I was a chief scout, I paid regular visits to a local eldercare home. Visit after visit, I had the opportunity to have some meaningful conversations with some of the residents, who explained how difficult the experience of living in an eldercare home was for them, and how they had felt “forced” by their children out of their own house. Home for them was where they had grown their families and created so many memories with their husband or wife, who was now deceased. I can never forget these heartbreaking conversations. A few years later, as my own parents were considering moving out of their family house to a smaller and more convenient place, we started visiting options of homes and apartments. But at each of these visits, there was always, in my parents’ opinion, something missing, or misplaced. It was either too big, or too small… until I realized that - like the elders that I had met in the eldercare homes - they just didn’t really want to leave their own home that hosted so much of their stories and memories. For me, people like my parents, who have worked hard all their lives, deserve to have the option to stay where they best feel at home, while benefiting from the right support to make it possible. And I am so proud that KazaCare provides that choice to our elders.
